Caps Best Blues in OT in AESHL Action

The one-man wrecking ball named Jon Caul carried the St. John’s Toyota Plaza Caps to a 5-4 overtime victory against the Bell Island Family Drug Mart Blues in the Avalon East Senior Hockey League on Sunday night.

Caul netted three goals in the victory, including the overtime winner. Caul’s teammates Brandon Fewer and Jacob Pitcher chipped in with the other goals for the Caps.

The Bell Island crew was led by David Byrne who netted two goals in the losing effort.

Ryan Power and Terry Crewe each scored for the Bell Island squad.

Kyle Downer picked up the win, stopping 23 shots while Evan Giles was handed the loss for Bell Island despite being stellar between the pipes facing 44 shots.

In other Avalon East Senior Hockey action on Saturday, December 12, the Southern Shore Pugliesvich Breakers outlasted the Bell Island Blues to take the victory in 7-6. Andrew Gale led the way for the Breakers, scoring four goals and notching two helpers in the victory. Darryl Swain had a hat trick for the Blues. Colin Shaw also had two goals for the losing Blues.

Meanwhile, Friday night action saw the North East Eagles dump the St. John’s Toyota Plaza Caps by a score of 7-4 at the Jack Byrne Arena. The Eagles got two goals and two assists from Daniel Cadigan. Matthew Oates, Tyler Walsh, James CAdigan, Matt Roche and Andrew Temple rounded out the scoring for the winners.

The Caps got goals from Ryan Whiffen, Shane Sullivan, Cody Squires and Matt Fewer.

Despite the score, the Eagles only managed to outshoot the Caps 38-30.
