St. John’s getting a QMJHL Franchise?
Is St. John’s Getting QMJHL? There are many rumours going around that...
Here at NL Hockey Talk, we have been asking what is happening with the West Coast Senior Hockey League. Teams have been relatively quiet, the league website has been dormant since June and those involved with the league have remained silent.
The Port Aux Basques Mariners have broken the silence and posted an update on their Facebook page.
Here’s what the team has said:
A lot of people are wondering on the status of the league this season and rightfully so, as the only confirmed teams to play are your hometown Mariners and the Defending champion Corner Brook Royals.
With Stephenville and Deer Lake still unsure on player numbers going in to the 2019/20 season, the fate of the league hangs in the balance.
Deer Lake will be holding an open camp this weekend in hopes to gauge interest from players in the area. Times/dates are Oct 25th 8:45pm and Oct 26th 7:30pm at the Hodder Memorial arena. Anyone not able to attend tryouts for any team should contact the desired team directly and let them know your intent to play.
We encourage anyone looking to play for either team or wanting to be put in the dispersal draft to contact any of the four teams or you can send an email to pabmariners@outlook.com where it will passed on to the powers that be or click on the page links below.
Lets hope for a good turnout as the winter will be long without the WCSHL and we need a reason to brave the elements and what better motivation then to cheer on some great hockey action at four great hockey centers.
The silence from the league & the various teams is in our opinion, very disrespectful to the fans, sponsors and volunteers. Our sources are telling us that there are players who have committed to play in the various venues in the league. Some of these players were approached by other senior teams with the Central West & East Coast leagues but turned down the opportunity to play there thinking they would have a game closer to home. Those opportunities have since passed.
With the Fate of the West Coast Senior Hockey League held in the balance this weekend it will be interesting to see how many players show up & which teams actually can ice teams.
What’s your thoughts? Will there be a league? Will there be 3 or 4 teams if there is a league?
